Anwar exposes video of VK Lingam talking to Tun Fairuz

This video features lawyer VK Lingam, who was named by the PriceWaterhouseCoopers report on Perwaja as being a recipient of exorbitant legal fees as well as who appeared in the controversial picture with then-Chief Justice Tun Eusoffe Chin. In this video, he is talking to present Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairus Abdul Halim prior to the latter’s appointment.

This was exposed by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this morning in a press conference to the office. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there as I had to leave for Manila to prepare for the boss’ trip there later today. I did however had to wake some journalist friends to get them to go to the PC by calling them from the airport!

The boss’ statement:

In this video, Lingham was seen and heard to be talking to the current Chief Justice of the Federal Court, Tun Ahmad Fairuz Abdul Halim wherein my name, among others, is specifically mentioned.

It is mentioned in the context of a conspiracy to influence the appointment of senior judges and pervert the cause of justice. In view of this, we have reason to believe that whatever has transpired in this exchange in 2002 had some bearing on the outcomes in a number of judicial proceedings, including mine.

The video also implicates Vincent Tan and Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor. The former is a businessman and gaming tycoon who was allegedly at the center of a scandal involving the abuse of the judicial process now known as the Ayer Molek case. The latter is a prominent Umno leader and a member of the Cabinet who was involved in the political conspiracy to remove me in 1998.

Such a scandalous expose, as indeed this video really is, only serves to corroborate our allegations of a political conspiracy of the highest level and corruption of the highest judicial office, seriously bringing into question the impartiality of judicial proceedings involving the affected parties. This is matter of utmost public importance and we demand the setting up of an Independent Tribunal to investigate this shameful and scandalous episode.

In this regard, we make a special appeal to the conference of rulers to continue their constitutionally entrenched role in safeguarding the rights of the people by exercising their discretionary powers in all matters within their jurisdiction.

In addition, we also have an audio recording of another part of the conversation that we are not in a position to release in video form yet to protect the identity of the whistle-blower:

Don’t ask… because Vincent has taken me to PM’s residence… the house

Vincent had problems… Anwar’s case… all the lawyers… very… this and that…

But I cannot go and talk to PM just like that and say promote this and that…

Because ah, he knows… I am a… but when PM calls me on Anwar’s case, I can tell him… he’ll return…

I just don’t get it. What the fuss about the clip. The person in the video is aware that he is being filmed and he proudly played along and it is just what he wanted many of u people to believe to. And how so many do believed and this simply show how bad many of the opposition want to shame the Govt. And DSAI ..shame on you ….why are making this wave now. When Lingam was accused of holidaying in NZ with a former CJ..what are your comments then? If I remember correctly . as DPM..you did not say anything.

  5. CJGate:

This video clip was recorded knowingly by VK Lingam. At first he wasn’t so keen, but then he started to boast about how powerful he was.

Wait until we release the full clip.
