Yesterday, I received a small note from Imaan:
Doubt thou that the stars are fire;
Doubt thou that the sun doth move;
Doubt truth to be a liar;
But never doubt that I love.
Shakespeare, in Hamlet
While I enjoy reading in general, I have never been able to truly enjoy non-modern literature. I was intrigued by the tales of Sejarah Melayu, which we did in MCKK, but struggled to read it on my own. In KDU (where I spent one semester) and KYUEM, I took two semesters of English literature. The Shakespeare text in KDU was Hamlet, while in KYUEM was Macbeth. I enjoyed doing it in class, but I could hardly muster reading it on my own for fun.
While acting out a scene from Macbeth, I played the role of the First Murderer in Banquo’s murder scene. When Banquo said, “It will be rain tonight” my line was “Let it come down”. I was thinking to myself – did my dialogue refer to the rain, or to my dagger?
And the rest of the class, Mr. Fellender included, was looking at me – “Now you kill Banquo!”.
D’oh.
But still Mr. Fellender’s class was fun, even though I had a love-hate relationship with him. The next semester, a new teacher took over – and Cherap and I decided to trade literature with French.
But that only confirmed that third languages wasn’t my thing either (French in KYUEM and Arabic in MCKK).

Good for you..
